Participants will be able to determine what works and what doesn't when it comes to their equipment, decision-making capabilities and levels of training. The session is considered to be the highest level of evaluation and application of skills available without having to engage in a real fight.

Countering the Mass Shooter Threat

Michael Martin

Read MoreHide Details

About the presentation:
In this course, Countering the Mass Shooter Threat author Michael Martin reviews data gathered from 48 mass shootings that have occurred since Columbine to determine what can be learned from these terrible tragedies. Questions analyzed include whether a reduction in magazine capacity or any kind of firearms ban could have changed the outcome of these events. Michael also looks at whether so-called “gun-free” zones impact the planning of these mass murderers, whether victim response at any mass shooting has made a difference and whether “universal background checks” or other proposals by gun-control advocates stand a chance of stemming the current trajectory of these shootings. Michael summarizes this data with a comprehensive plan designed to eliminate the scourge of these shooters once and for all.

About the speaker:
Michael Martin is the researcher and author behind the USCCA textbooks, Countering the Mass Shooter Threat, Emergency First-Aid Fundamentals and Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals. In addition to his work with the USCCA, Michael is also certified as a CIRAS (Collaborative Incident Response, Active Shooter) instructor. He teaches police, fire and EMS agencies how to respond to the aftermath of mass shooting events in order to minimize the loss of life. Martin's textbooks and other training materials are currently in use by thousands of USCCA instructors across the U.S., and he is considered one of the nation’s foremost experts in mass shootings. Martin also serves as a full-time firefighter and paramedic in the Twin Cities and is a U.S. Army veteran, with service time in South Korea; Augsburg, Germany; and Washington, D.C.

How to Identify and Improve Trigger Control Problems

Steven Gilcreast

Read MoreHide Details

About the presentation:
The process of shooting a pistol is simple – aim at your intended target, and press the trigger without adding additional movement. These very simple steps will inevitably result in hitting your target.
However simple this may seem, the hard reality is that nearly every pistol shooter struggles with the final step. The corrective action to improve trigger control will result in less unintentional movement
of the muzzle prior to a bullet exiting the muzzle. This corrective action may be difficult to identify for inexperienced shooters, but the good news is it is possible to correct.

Please join me as we examine the causes for unintended movement of the muzzle during trigger press and some corrective actions you can take to correct your trigger control.

About the speaker:
Steven Gilcreast is the Director of Training, SIG Sauer Academy. Steve has been with SIG SAUER since 2009 in various roles including Adjunct Instructor, Senior Instructor, Training Manager, and Pistol Product Manager. He has 20 years of combined military and law enforcement experience. Steve served 10 years in the United States Army, spending much of his service in the world famous 82nd Airborne Division. Upon completing his active-duty service, Steve became a full-time Law Enforcement Officer. Freedom: The Underlying Reason We Carry

Kevin Dixie

Read MoreHide Details

About the presentation:
In this discussion, Kevin Dixie will cover the history of the U.S. and why the right to carry a firearm is so significant to all Americans. Once a person has decided to act on the human right to defend himself or herself, one must appreciate the responsibility that comes with it and what this choice signifies. It’s much more than simply carrying a gun. How has the person subconsciously decided to make the community safer? Kevin will help you answer that and other related questions during this presentation.

Kevin will also address the biases individuals have formed. What does the bad guy look like when someone imagines a self-defense scenario? Does the bad guy always look, dress and speak the same? As protectors, we must exclude these biases. How do we subdue those thoughts and think outside these confines?

Having worked 10 years in law enforcement, Kevin has been exposed to people making rash decisions based on what their conscious has come to believe was a threat. This has cost many people their freedom and the ability to protect what they love. Kevin’s job was to apprehend some of the most ruthless human beings imaginable … and now he wants to prevent good people from being misidentified as criminals.

About the speaker:
Kevin Dixie is a native of Saint Louis, Missouri, and married father of two. He has served for 10 years with the Saint Louis City Police Department in the Prisoner Processing Division and 15 years as a private security professional.

About the presentation:
Serious arterial bleeding from a gunshot wound, a knife wound, or from other significant trauma, can end a victim’s life in minutes. While that trauma victim ultimately needs to be in surgery in the hands of a skilled surgeon, the act of saving the person's life will be very likely be performed in the field by a lay rescuer, well before the surgeon even knows the patient is on his or her way to the emergency room. The USCCA mini-course, Save a Life: Control the Bleed is designed to teach you those life-saving skills including: Knowing how to properly apply a commercial tourniquet or fashion a field expedient one; how to apply a compression bandage; how to pack a wound when no other option exists; and how to treat a patient who has sustained a penetrating injury to the chest. This course not only walks you through each of those interventions, it provides hands-on practical exercises with commercial and field expedient versions of each. The course culminates with two, real-world scenarios where you and your classmates will be plunged into an emergency situation, requiring teamwork and your newly obtained skills to ultimately save the life of a severely injured victim. Don’t miss this course presented by Michael Martin, the creator of Save a Life: Control the Bleed, and the author of Emergency First Aid Fundamentals.

About the speaker:

Read MoreHide Details

About the presentation:
Interested in purchasing an AR-15? Already have one but don't know the best way to accessorize it to fit your specific needs? This class will guide you through selecting an appropriate AR-15 for home defense, and the accessories that will ensure your rifle is correctly set up for home defense applications with slings, lights, and optics.

About the speaker:
Gavin Glasenapp:
Gavin Glasenapp learned to responsibly use firearms at an early age from his father, a career firefighter in the U.S. Air Force. Growing up, he enjoyed recreational target shooting and a variety of hunting. Life as a military brat offered him the opportunity to live in many places, but his mother and father eventually settled in southeastern Wisconsin.

As an adult, Gavin followed in his father’s footsteps and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He initially enlisted as an Armored Reconnaissance Specialist (Cavalry Scout), but early in his career, successfully applied for the Army’s Warrant Officer Flight Training program. Gavin completed the Army’s Rotary Wing Flight School and started his aviation journey as an AH-64 Apache pilot. About halfway through his twenty years in the Army, he transitioned to the MH-47 Chinook, flying in a special operations aviation unit.

Martin also serves as a full-time firefighter and paramedic in the Twin Cities and is a U.S. Army veteran, with service time in South Korea; Augsburg, Germany; and Washington, D.C.

About the presentation:
If you’ve ever imagined finding yourself in a self-defense situation, you may have envisioned a heroic ending where you successfully defended yourself or your family from an armed attacker. But have you ever envisioned what would occur in the immediate aftermath of a use of force? The seminar, The Use of Force and the Aftermath, explores the multiple decision points you must face whenever you find yourself with no other choice, other than to use deadly force to stop an attack. In this seminar, Michael Martin, author of Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals, uses a variety of deadly force scenarios to coach his audience through each decision point, before, during and after a use of deadly force, to examine whether any other options existed, and to explore exactly how the police, the prosecutor, and even a jury may view each decision made. This seminar culminates with a real-world scenario where the audience gets to act as the prosecuting attorney, where they will get to make the ultimate decision on whether to charge a concealed carry permit holder with a crime, or to set them free.

About the speaker:
Michael Martin is the researcher and author behind the USCCA textbooks, Countering the Mass Shooter Threat, Emergency First-Aid Fundamentals and Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals. Save a Life, Control the Bleed

Michael Martin

Read MoreHide Details

About the presentation:

About the presentation:
Join Gavin and Justin Peters on the demo stage as they discuss the benefits of using an AR-15 for home defense. They will explain what mechanical offset is and why it occurs, how it affects where your shot impacts, and why it's important to understand if you plan on using an AR-15 to defend your home.

He deployed over a dozen times to Afghanistan, Iraq, and other locations worldwide. Gavin also served as a standardization instructor pilot in both the Apache and Chinook and was qualified as a tactical operations officer. While in the Army, Gavin also completed his bachelor’s degree in aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Following retirement from the US Army, Gavin went on to serve nearly three years as a patrol officer of a police department located in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. Gavin served as an Assistant Patrol Leader and was grateful for several training opportunities. For example, he was able to become S.W.A.T. qualified and attend schools such as Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training and Crisis Intervention Training.

About the presentation:
This hands-on class consists of two distinct 1.5-hour reality-based training sessions that will help students sharpen their gun-handling skills in a variety of simulated, real-world situations. Course sessions will cover firearms handling, proper tactical movement, appropriate decision-making, a shooting simulator and force-on-force training using T4E-converted handguns that employ non-lethal marking rounds. These converted handguns allow scenario participants to safely fight “attackers” in lethal-force scenarios, followed by a debriefing and assessment of the drill. Participants will be able to determine what works and what doesn't when it comes to their equipment, decision-making capabilities and levels of training. The session is considered to be the highest level of evaluation and application of skills available without having to engage in a real fight.

*NOTE: All attendees are required to bring gloves and long sleeves/hooded sweatshirts. No weapons of any kind are allowed in this course. Attendees are subject to a weapons check before class and will have access to storage units if necessary.

Without a proper understanding of yourself and how you have subconsciously blended self-defense and self-awareness; your unknown or unaddressed perception can lead you to prison.

Steven Gilcreast is the Director of Training, SIG Sauer Academy. Steve has been with SIG SAUER since 2009 in various roles including Adjunct Instructor, Senior Instructor, Training Manager, and Pistol Product Manager. The Use of Force and the Aftermath

Michael Martin

Kevin is the owner and operator of No Other Choice Firearms Training (NOC) — a professional firearms and self-defense company — and the founder of Aiming for the Truth — a six-step program to help heal broken families, strengthen the community bonds of neighbors and improve the lives of people nationwide. Aiming for the Truth is focused on getting to the root of the factors that are driving violence in our communities.

Kevin has spent 20 years as a civil rights advocate. He has presented on community building and civil rights throughout the U.S. He has been featured on NRATV, CarbonTV, Gun Freedom Radio, Firearms Network, Tom Woods Show and dozens of podcasts.

AR-15 Home Defense: Will You Land the Shot?

Gavin Glasenapp & Justin Peters

Read MoreHide Details

About the presentation:
Join Gavin and Justin Peters on the demo stage as they discuss the benefits of using an AR-15 for home defense. They will explain what mechanical offset is and why it occurs, how it affects where your shot impacts, and why it's important to understand if you plan on using an AR-15 to defend your home.

Gavin now proudly works at Delta Defense, the Official Service Provider for the USCCA, serving in the Training Division as a Field Operations Manager. He leads a team of Field Training Specialists and Training Operations Coordinators, whose goal is to grow the business of USCCA Official Partners by advising and onboarding them to training and education programs. He is also a Training Counselor for the USCCA’s Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals, Defensive Shooting Fundamentals, and AR-15 programs.

Gavin enjoys building model kits, reading, and obsessing over anything Star Wars.

Justin Peters:
Justin Peters is the Training Counselor Coordinator within the Training Division at Delta Defense, the Official Service Provider for the USCCA. He is a Senior Training Counselor for the USCCA’s Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals, Defensive Shooting Fundamentals, and AR-15 Fundamentals curriculums. Justin developed an interest in firearms at an early age and had aspirations of becoming a police officer. Shortly after receiving a degree in Criminal Justice, he was hired at Delta Defense. He took his passion for helping others, and his motivation for wanting to become a police officer, and applied it to firearms instruction. When he isn’t teaching he enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 children, being outdoors, and cooking.

Save a Life, Control the Bleed

Read MoreHide Details

About the presentation:

Michael Martin is the researcher and author behind the USCCA textbooks, Countering the Mass Shooter Threat, Emergency First-Aid Fundamentals and Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals.
